True Or False? All Women Have Orgasms During Sex

Category: Truth or Myth

It is a complete fallacy that all women have orgasms during sex. Before we get to the possible causes of a woman's inability to reach a climax as well as the different types of orgasms a female can get, let's first have a look at what an orgasm is.

An orgasm can be defined as the peak of sexual pleasure characterized by a series of muscle contractions in the pelvic area, genitals and anus. During an orgasm endorphins are released which cause intense pleasure and relaxation.

The causes of female orgasmic dysfunction (the inability to reach a sexual climax) can be physical, emotional, or psychological in nature. For example: older age, medical conditions, medication, depression, anxiety, stress, shyness, guilt about enjoying sex, cultural or religious beliefs, bad self-esteem, relationship problems or a history of gynecological surgeries. This dysfunction can also be cause by a combination of above mentioned factors.

Four types of orgasmic dysfunction have been identified, namely primary anorgasmia, secondary anorgasmia, situational anorgasmia and general anorgasmia.

If you have primary anorgasmia, it means that you have never reached a sexual climax in your life. In terms of secondary anorgasmia you find it difficult to get an orgasm even though you have had a climax before. The most common type of orgasmic dysfunction is situational anorgasmia and refers to the inability to have an orgasm during specific situations. For example oral sex. General anorgasmia can be defined as the inability to get an orgasm under any circumstances, even when extremely aroused and sexual stimulated.

Believe it or not but women can have 10 different types of orgasms. They are the clitoral, G-spot, anal, deep vaginal erogenous zone, squirting, cervical, nipple, exercise and blended orgasm. Fantastic, isn't it?

Orgasmic dysfunction treatment depends solely on the cause of the condition. Treatment options include but are not limited to cognitive behavioral therapy, sex therapy, couples counseling and/or a change in medication. Sex toys can also help a women reach a climax by increasing clitoral stimulation during masturbation and sexual intercourse.

Estrogen hormone therapy may also be suggested as estrogen will help to the genital area which in turn will heighten sexual desire and skin sensitivity. Estrogen hormone therapy can be prescribed in pill, patch, or gel form.

The inability to reach a climax can be extremely frustrating for both partners and in turn result in relationship problems. Good news is that with the proper treatment an individual can have a healthy sex life that includes the ability to have an orgasm during sex. It's very important to know that you are not alone. Many women deal with orgasmic dysfunction at some point in their lives.

It is recommended that you consult a doctor as soon as you seen any signs or symptoms of orgasmic dysfunction. They have the knowledge and experience to identify the cause of the problem and can provide you with information about the latest developments in sexual health care.
